Who Dares Wins
TWO WEEKS OF FUN IN THE BRECON BEACONS
Endurance phase of SAS Selection
If you really think you are tough enough why not have a go at this!
The SAS is one of the finest elite fighting forces in the world, made up of only a select few. To become a member of this elite band requires physical and mental toughness, and prospective troopers must go through an arduous selection process.
All you guys who have read about it, or seen the T.V. programmes, and wondered.. 'Could I do that?'... Or maybe even thought to yourself...'I could do that!'...can now find out.
Alternatively, you may want to put yourself forward for SAS Selection or another elite unit, and want to get an idea of what you are letting yourself in for.
You may even be an endurance athlete who wants a fresh challenge.
This is your chance to put yourself to the test.
SAS Survival is running the Endurance phase of Selection. This is an exact copy of the real thing and will culminate in test week.
You will be trained and followed by experienced ex-SAS and Para personnel who will coerce and motivate you over the two week course. You will eventually be let loose on the hills for the final Long Drag on the last two days of the course, and should you complete it in less than 20 hours, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you could have got through at least that phase of Selection.
BE AWARE... you must be able to run 8 miles in under 2 hours to even qualify...otherwise you will probably die!
Anyone needing advice on how to build up for this course can get in touch with us.
If this is not up your street but you would still like to get a flavour of Selection then you may be interested in the Fan Dance or Long Drag. You will find more details on this further down the page.

Special Forces Training / Combat Missions
The Special Forces are special because of their reputation for professionalism and high levels of skill. These skills are built up through rigorous training and a desire to be the best there is. At SAS Survival we take the training seriously but realise most people do not have the time it takes to become one of the elite but still wish to experience what it is like to train with the best. Therefore our training team has put together a series of weekend packages that will teach you the fundamentals of Special Forces training.
Using replica airsoft weapons, this is a chance for you to experience life as an SAS trooper, and these are some of our most popular courses, particularly as a gift for birthdays, stag-dos, and even hen dos!
Course content may vary and can be tailored to suit individuals but will typically include the following:-
Day One
Participants will be given an introduction to basic survival skills followed by instruction on basic military skills. Throughout the day the participants will be given exercises and minimissions to put their skills to the test.
Day Two
This will include further training followed the chance to engage in battle, either against our instructors or against each other.
Examples of the skills taught are as follows:-
Shelter
Building
One of the first things to consider in a survival situation is the need to get out of the elements. In a civilian situation this may involve building an a-frame shelter out of local foliage; in a military situation where stealth is also a factor it may be necessary to use a simple basha.
Fire Lighting Another factor in survival is how to keep warm. Our instructors will teach you how to make use of local materials so you can stay warm and cook your dinner!
Planning and Operational Orders - Without good strategic planning and a clear set of orders, patrols will fail to achieve their objectives. This lesson teaches you how to plan the effort and give clear orders to your patrol members. Prior Planning & Preparation Prevents Poor Performance as they say in the army!
Weapons Handling and Marksmanship - When the going gets tough the SAS trooper places his own life in the skills he has mastered with his personal weapons. Knowing how to shoot will save his life and those of his mates. Our instructors will teach you these skills using airsoft weapons. These are replica weapons which fire small plastic pellets known as BBs.
Map Reading & Navigation - An essential skill for anyone venturing onto the hills anywhere in the world and an absolute must for members of the SAS.
Camouflage and Concealment -To observe but not be observed is another core skill in the military and in particular SAS operations. In their role as surveillance experts, members of the SAS understand the importance of staying hidden from the enemy. Each team will be given camouflage clothing and camouflage cream, and then be taught how to see without being seen.
Patrolling and Fieldcraft - Without good patrolling and fieldcraft skills, patrols can easily get compromised and captured. Fieldcraft is about crossing country without being seen, tactics and standard operational procedures (S.O.P.s). You will be taught by our instructors how to cross difficult terrain quickly and efficiently and allow you to utilise camouflage and navigation effectively.
Contact and Anti-Ambush Drills If all of the above skills are not up to scratch or you are just unlucky, then you may end up being bumped by the enemy. SAS troopers need to know how to respond efficiently and positively in such situations to get themselves out of trouble.
Assaulting Positions If you have successfully reached your objective, it is now your turn to put the enemy on the back foot. Drawing from real life combat experience, our instructors will teach you how to give the enemy the good news.
Unarmed Combat- When it gets close up and personal an SAS trooper may need to defend himself without recourse to weapons. This is where close quarter combat skills come in useful. In a civilian situation you may also find these skills indispensable. You will be taught by Bob Spour who has 35 years experience in these techniques. You will be taught physical ways to deal with an aggressor but also how to understand threat awareness, threat evaluation and threat avoidance; the foundations of effective personal protection.
All equipment other than boots and sleeping bags will be supplied by SAS Survival so it is important to have a full list of all participants and their statistics.
Course costs vary depending upon the size of the group per person and if they want it tailored to suit their requirements. Once agreed payment must be made 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the course.
P.O.A.
A deposit of £50 must be paid within 2 weeks of booking the course and the balance to be paid in full 4 weeks prior to course commencement. (click here) |

Long Drag
|
(Next Long Drag: 17th & 18th May 2008.)
Long Drag is the name assigned to the finale of the endurance or hill phase of SAS selection. If you thought that the 'Fan Dance' was tough then take a look at this.
It is guaranteed to test you to your limit.
We are now pleased to be working in association with Duncan Clark who as well as instructing for us also runs his own company - North Ridge Adventure. Duncan is in the process of developing new ideas for the running of this event so please watch this space.
Duncan will be able to personally advise you on the details of the event but here are a few things to give you an idea of what it involves:-
Traversing across the Brecon Beacons over 40 miles you are expected to complete the course in 20 hours or better!
We will not be setting strict timings or insisting you carry the correct weight on the refor this but if you want to test your fitness to the standard of the SAS then you must complete the walk in under 20 hours carrying a 55lb bergan, 35lb belt kit and a piece of scaffolding pipe to simulate a rifle.
Be aware that if you want to complete the course individually then you must be at a high level of fitness and be able to navigate with a map and compass to an advanced level.
Alternatively, if the prospect of doing this seems daunting then we will be able to have a former member of the SAS to personally guide you along the route.
We also need people to bring along suitable walking kit, maps compasses etc. We can give you a suggested kit list and training regime for people who want to build up their fitness and their map reading skills.
You must be over 18 years of age. Total cost £205 per person.

Fan Dance
(Next Fan Dance: 7th June 2008)
For military personel the Fan Dance represents one of the toughest challenges they will ever have to face. For the SAS its just another slog on the hard road to passing selection. For you as a civilian it will be a unique experience that you may never repeat again. Let our team take you across the Fan Dance and allow you to experience what every trooper has to face on selection. The Fan Dance is a psychological and physical challenge that will test you to the limits and once completed you can say you have passed your own personal selection!
On this course you will rub shoulders with ex-SAS and ex-Para personel as they take you across the Brecon Beacons to have the experience of a lifetime.
We are now pleased to be working in association with Duncan Clark who as well as instructing for us also runs his own company - North Ridge Adventure. Duncan is in the process of developing new ideas for the running of this event so please watch this space.
Duncan will be able to personally advise you on the details of the event but here are a few things to give you an idea of what it involves:-
The route involves a 15 mile march over the Brecon Beacons taking in the highest peak, Peny-Fan, which gives walk its name.
We will not be setting strict timings or insisting you carry the correct weight for this but if you want to test your fitness to the standard of the SAS then you must complete the walk in 4 hours and 15 mins complete with 55lb bergan, 35lb belt kit and a piece of scaffolding pipe to simulate a rifle.
If not, you are welcome to walk at your own pace and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Beacons. However we must stress that even taken at a slow pace, this is still a very tough walk and we would expect a reasonable standard of fitness from any prospective participants and the ability to navigate with a map and compass.
Alternatively if the prospect of doing this seems daunting then we will be able to have a former member of the SAS to personally guide you along the route.
We also need people to bring along suitable walking kit, maps compasses etc. We can give you a suggested kit list and training regime for people who want to build up their fitness.
You must be over 18 years of age. Total cost £45 per person.

Airsoft
Airsoft Training Courses
We are currently offering airsofters the chance to train with the best of the British armed forces. These courses are run by our instructors who have had real combat experience and give participants the chance to learn the tactics used by the SAS and elite forces. They are particularly suited to teams who want to give themselves the edge in airsoft events.
We offer a wide selection of topics and courses can be tailored to suit individual teams. Topics include:-
Planning and Operational Orders This course will teach you how to organise your troops, asses the enemy dispositions, and work out your overall strategy.
Map Reading & Navigation Having worked out your plan, you now have to find your way to the target. The ability to interpret a map, plan your route and make sure you dont get lost en-route, is a core skill of any Special Forces soldier.
Patrolling and Fieldcraft Having figured out your route you must then get you, and your troops, to the target without being compromised. Areas covered in this course will cover such things as patrolling, formations, hand signals, and crossing obstacles.
Camouflage and Concealment Excellent patrolling skills are all well and good, but without proper camouflage and concealment you will stick out like a sore thumb. This course will teach the principles of how to remain hidden from the bad guys.
Contact and Anti-Ambush Drills Invariably no matter how good you are, you might get on the wrong end of an ambush. Elite forces soldiers have slickly rehearsed drills to get themselves out of trouble. This course will also cover the importance of being able to re-organise yourself effectively after a contact.
Assaulting Positions Having successfully reached your objective you now need to take out the baddies. This course will cover such drills as section attacks and target identification.
Courses will be run over one or two days. Please ring or e-mail us to arrange a course for your teams.
The minimum number of persons per course is 15
